Gibibyte (GiBs) are a unit of measurement in computing that are used for storage. They are not gigabytes!

Gibibytes take their name from being like a gigabyte but being based on binary, hence the “bi.” Because information on a computer is stored in binary bits, they are a more purpose-built measurement for that data than GBs.

One GiB is equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes. Practically speaking, if you think in gigabytes like I do, then 1 GiB equals 1.07374 GB. So, they’re roughly equivalent, but one is bigger than the other and this is not worth overlooking.
